Student Dies After Falling From The 4th Floor At Benjamin Franklin High School In Highland Park!
A student at Benjamin Franklin Senior High School in Highland Park, Los Angeles, died Wednesday afternoon after falling from a fourth-floor railing. The incident occurred around 1 p.m. at the campus located at 820 North Avenue 54. Firefighters transported the boy to a hospital, where he later died.
Video circulating online and accounts from students indicate a physical altercation in a classroom preceded the fall. Two male students were involved in the fight. A teacher intervened, but one student wearing a backpack continued striking the other. The student being hit fled the room, pursued by the other along an outdoor walkway, after which the first student went over the railing.
Witnesses described the deceased student as typically quiet and not one to engage in fights. One person present reported seeing him struck forcefully, exit the classroom, and then fall from the walkway. Some local accounts suggested he may have been a senior, though authorities have not confirmed his grade level, name, or age.
Los Angeles Police Department and school police are investigating the death. Officer Rosario Cervantes stated that no evidence of foul play has been identified so far. Principal Marine Davtyan and the school district notified parents, describing the event as a medical emergency. The campus lockdown has ended, and no arrests or charges have been reported. Investigators continue reviewing classroom and walkway video footage along with student statements, as officials have not yet released a complete public explanation of how the student went over the railing.
